Disney's Elena of Avalor

I am so excited to write this post because I have been waiting for this moment since I was a child. Disney creators have finally come out with a Latina princess that not only my daughter can relate to, but so can I.

I can remember being a child and not being able to relate to a Disney Princess until I was about ten years old when Aladdin came out and I looked at Princess Jasmine and felt that I looked like her, but yet I still couldn't fully relate. As I got older, I always wondered why there wasn't a Latina Princess and wished it would happen, especially now that I have a daughter. When Elena of Avalor was announced, the excitement throughout my body was indescribable. To know my daughter didn't have to go through the same feelings that I did as a child just warmed my heart.

Princess Elena is a confident and compassionate teenager in an enchanted fairytale kingdom inspired by diverse Latin cultures and folklore. We will get to meet Elena and her family, which consists of her younger sister, Princess Isabel and her grandparents, Francisco and Luisa. I love that this Princess is bold and courageous because these are qualities that I want my daughter to have. Princess Elena will embark on her greatest journey as the leader and protector of Avalor this summer and I am beyond excited to watch every Friday with my daughter. I also love that there is so much music involved because growing up in a Latin household, music filled my home. My daughter is as excited as I am, each time she sees the commercial on Disney Channel and Disney Junior she says “ELENA!”

I decided that we need to make watching her show a celebration because well, that’s just how Latinos do it! Everything is always a party with Latinos and what better way to celebrate than a fiesta. My daughter had so much fun helping me and my husband decorate our home for Friday’s premiere and if you have been following me for a while you know how much I love crafts for a party.
